The project manager maintains close scrutiny over all translation projects and can therefore track them at any given moment. We use daily or weekly status reports as tools to report back to clients so that they can stay abreast of their projects. Our communication with clients continues after the delivery of the translation in follow-ups and project reviews. We believe in the importance of continually assessing our procedures and always trying to improve our services.
Before a document is given to a translator for translation, it is carefully analyzed, thereby allowing us to familiarize ourselves with the subject matter and to decide what expertise will be needed for the translation. If we have any doubts, we discuss the project with clients to ensure that we understand exactly what they are looking for.
A good translation adopts a vocabulary and style appropriate to the text and audience. In order to achieve this, we find out as much as possible about the target audience, including critical information about the audience's culture, for instance. Therefore, we encourage our clients to obtain as much information as possible about who will be reading the translated document.
Bilingual glossaries are custom-made dictionaries containing industry-specific terms extracted from one or more document(s), translated within the context of the document(s), and presented in two columns, one containing the source language, the other the target language.
Glossaries are an important aspect of quality translations because every industry and even every company have their own specific jargons. Before translating an entire document, it is important to verify that the translation of industry-specific vocabulary corresponds to a company’s use of this vocabulary. In effect, this initial step saves time further on in the project and allows a client to have a say in the final outcome of a translation, guaranteeing its professional standard.
The use of glossaries guarantees consistency between different translations. Once clients approve of the vocabulary, they keep the glossary until the next time they need to have something translated. At this time, the translator can use the previously created glossary as a resource for the new translation. We keep glossaries up to date by adding new terms whenever they appear in a new text to be translated. We feel this initial step is worth taking to ensure our clients’ satisfaction.
